May is Nevada Wildfire Awareness Month!
Every May, partners across Nevada unite to create a vital interagency wildfire education campaign aimed at raising awareness and preparedness across the state and empowering Nevadan’s to become Battle Born Wildfire Ready.
Plan an event or activity
- Consider hosting a Wildfire Trivia Night in conjunction with a local business or community group. Contact us at LWF@unr.edu for the Wildfire Trivia PowerPoint.
- Schedule a defensible space inspection with your local fire department.
- Walk your property to identify vulnerabilities.
- Clean up your yard using our guidelines for defensible space and firescaping.
- Host a community clean up day to get your neighbors interested and acting to create defensible space and a more wildfire prepared neighborhood.
- Create or update your evacuation plan.
- Make sure you’re signed up for emergency notifications with your county.

Partners
Every year, assisted by grant funds from the Bureau of Land Management, Nevada Division of Forestry, and U.S. Forest Service, the University of Nevada, Reno Extension Living With Fire program collaborates with local, state, and federal firefighting agencies to bring awareness to wildfire topics in our region. Additional funding from program partners, support from corporate sponsors, and other in-kind funding all contribute to the effort.
